Title:NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF DIVORCE ON CHILDREN AND WAYS TO DEAL WITH THEM (in Azerbaijani)
Volume:7
Issue:2
Abstract:

The presented article reflects the negative psychological effects of divorce—one of the most pressing socio-psychological problems of the modern era—on children and ways to minimize these consequences. In the introductory part of the research, the relevance of the issue is emphasized against the backdrop of current divorce statistics in Azerbaijan, and the risks this growth dynamics poses to the future psychological health of society are noted. The historical approaches of people toward marriage and divorce, and the reasons for the change in the meaning of these phenomena over the years are explained. Within the framework of the literature review, the different psychological reactions divorce creates in children are comparatively investigated, referring to the long-term observations of researchers such as J.Wallerstein, P.Amato, M.Hetherington, and A.Cherlin. The article explains the phenomenon of divorce through the prisms of J.Bowlby’s “Attachment”, A.Bandura’s “Social Learning”, and M.Bowen’s “Family Systems” theories. As a result of the research, practical recommendations such as honest communication, a “co-parenting” model, and the preservation of routines are put forward to reduce the traumatic effects of parental conflict on the child.
