Mythological and real foundations of the horse cult in Azerbaijani folklore are considered in the article. In the analysis, the main features that determine the position of the horse cult are indicated, the main, important principles of the cult character are highlighted, and mythological and real representations are summarized. If we consider cults as objects of worship for those who seek help in difficult periods of life, then we can certainly say that horses have performed such a mission since ancient times. The ancient Turks tamed horses in order to bring them closer to long distances. The horse was both a means of transportation, facilitating difficult tasks, and an assistant to the cavalry, which played an important role in achieving a brilliant victory in battles with enemies. A number of specific, special traits, arising from the natural qualities of the horse, also served as a means of honoring it as a cult object.
Existing sources devoted to the mythological qualities of the horse are used in the article. Also, the author, based on his life experience, summarized his observations in a theoretical and practical unity and by means of a parallel comparative analysis considered the position of the mythological worldview in the literary and cultural thought. Referring to the work of individual researchers in this area, the analysis reflects and evaluates the specific features of the cult of the horse in the ancient Turkic worldview, as well as in Azerbaijani folklore.
In the result of the article, referring to the mythological, real qualities, the sacred meaning of the horse in the mythological myth, national folklore, literary and artistic thought, and also in real life, relevant conclusions are provided.
