The article examines the issue of teaching Russian phraseology to foreign military specialists and emphasizes the need to study phraseological units at an advanced stage, when learners already possess a sufficient vocabulary and generally have a good command of Russian grammar. Foreigners studying the Russian language like to use phraseological units in their speech activity. However, without understanding their semantics or not knowing in which syntactic constructions and in which situations a particular phraseological unit can and should be used, they make mistakes. Therefore, the teacher must acquaint students with Russian traditions and customs, the peculiarities of the behavior of Russian people in different situations, the mentality of Russians, as well as help them in the practical acquisition and use of phraseological units in speech.
It is noted that Russian phraseology represents valuable material for regional studies knowledge about the history, traditions, customs, and everyday life of the Russian people; its study contributes to the formation of communicative and cultural competencies of foreign military personnel. Attention is focused on the fact that successful acquisition of phraseological units by foreign learners requires purposeful work and careful selection of linguistic material. A set of exercises is proposed that allows foreign military personnel to master the features of phraseological units as figurative, semantically integral units of the language. The author pays special attention to types of tasks aimed at developing communicative and cultural competencies of foreign military specialists.
