The article for the first time studies the coins of the Safavid state and Ganja Khanate discovered by prominent Azerbaijani archeologist Davud bey Mikail bey oglu Sharifov (1885-1952) during archeological and exploration works in Chovdar village in 1928 and further transferred to the Museum of History of Azerbaijan.
The study includes photos of silver coin - abbasi (7.4 g) minted during the reign of Safavid ruler Abbas II at Tiflis Mint (1053 AH = 1643-1644) and copper coin - fulus (8.8 g) of Ganja Khanate, as well as information about their inventory numbers registered in the Numismatics Fund of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan.
Information about weight, inscriptions, mint, year of minting of such coins used in the monetary economy of Azerbaijan in the late Middle Ages, their practical significance, role in archeology and numismatics is also reflected in the article.
The results of the study of such coins are expedient to apply in numismatic determination of coins of Azerbaijan of 18th–19th centuries, in archaeological research, as well as in the educational process. Such finds are important facts for solving errors reflected in modern historical research and preaching.
